The LASIK Process

Consultation

Drs. Chokshi and Coluccelli were both LASIK patients, and everyone on our staff understands the concerns of our patients. That’s why our consultation is designed to evaluate your personal vision needs and help determine your candidacy for LASIK. If LASIK is right for you, our comprehensive LASIK consultation will provide you with the information you need to make an informed decision. During your personal LASIK consultation, you will be able to meet with our doctors and staff to answer any questions you may have about this life-changing event.

Procedure

On the day of your procedure, you’ll arrive at our state-of-the-art facility and go through a few simple instructions with one of our staff members. You’ll be led into our vision correction suite and recline at the Bausch & Lomb Laser station. Anesthetic drops will be applied to numb your eyes. Your eye will be held open with an eyelid holder and you’ll be asked to look at a red blinking light. A device called a microkeratome will be used to create a flap in the outer layer of your cornea. The flap is then gently folded back so the laser can reshape the cornea.

As the laser works, you’ll experience little or no sensation other than flashing lights or the sound of the laser. In just a few short moments, the procedure is complete, the flap is replaced, and you’ll be led into a recovery room for some brief instructions. No patches are necessary, but special eyewear will be given to protect your eyes for a short period. Arrangements will need to be made for someone to drive you home. A nap is encouraged to promote healing, and most people can return to normal activities the next day.

Our physicians have performed LASIK on thousands of individuals, including several members of our own staff. Drs. Chokshi and Coluccelli are so confident in LASIK that they, too, have undergone the procedure. We welcome the opportunity to provide you with referrals from our LASIK patients who can speak frankly and honestly about their procedure, experience and results.
