LASIK FAQ

How much experience do Drs. Chokshi and Coluccelli have?

Drs. Chokshi and Coluccelli have nearly 30 years of combined experience performing refractive procedures.

Are LASIK results guaranteed?

Although there is no guarantee that you will have perfect vision after laser vision correction, most patients see well enough to pass a driver’s test without corrective lenses. Statistics show that following the laser vision correction procedure with the Bausch & Lomb laser, more than 87 percent of patients are 20/20 vision, 89 percent are 20/25, and more than 99 percent are 20/40 or better. Using the Bausch & Lomb Zyoptix system the results are even more impressive. In clinical studies, more than 91 percent of patients reported 20/20 vision and virtually all were 20/40 or better. The Bausch & Lomb laser consistently outperforms other lasers, according to research conducted by the U.S. Food & Drug Administration.

What is Zyoptix custom LASIK and is this procedure right for me?

Although based on the same technique as LASIK, Zyoptix is a more highly sophisticated technology. While LASIK treats standard visual errors, much like glasses or contacts, the Zyoptix system goes much deeper. With Zyoptix, Drs. Chokshi and Coluccelli can examine each eye for microscopic visual errors previously unseen by normal diagnostics. Since these errors are unique to your vision (much like a fingerprint), Drs. Chokshi and Coluccelli can develop a personalized vision-correction plan that corrects these individual flaws, giving you the most precise treatment possible and better natural vision.

More than 100,000 Zyoptix procedures have been performed worldwide with virtually all patients expressing satisfaction with their new eyesight. You may be a possible candidate for Zyoptix if you’re in good general health, have had stable vision for more than two years, and suffer from nearsightedness or astigmatism. Many who have been turned down for LASIK in the past may also be candidates for Zyoptix. For more information, call our office today.

Is laser vision correction painful?

We use a numbing eye drop to eliminate any discomfort during the LASIK procedure. Afterwards, the majority of our patients state the procedure was not painful at all.

How do I know if I am a candidate for LASIK?

We offer a comprehensive evaluation to determine if you would benefit from this procedure. During this visit, our staff will perform several tests to determine your eligibility for LASIK. At this visit, you will also have the opportunity to meet with Drs. Chokshi, Coluccelli or Habashi to address any questions or concerns you may have. You may call our office at 904-SEE-CLEAR (904-733-2532) to arrange your comprehensive evaluation.

What if I move my eye during the procedure?

Not only are Drs. Chokshi or Coluccelli observing and tracking your eye movements through a microscope during the procedure, but the Bausch & Lomb laser also has a tracking system that observes and reacts to any movements of your eye. If your eye moves past a certain point, the laser will stop automatically.

How soon after the procedure will I be able to see?

Each patient experiences different results. Generally, a marked improvement in vision is experienced by early evening on the day of the procedure. You can usually resume most normal activities such as driving, working and mild exercising a few days after LASIK.

Will I still need contact lenses or glasses afterwards?

Most individuals under the age of 40 do not need glasses or contact lenses after laser vision correction. As a part of the natural aging process, some individuals over 40 might need reading glasses after the LASIK procedure due to a condition known as presbyopia. Drs. Chokshi and Coluccelli can advise you on other vision-correction options, including monovision correction.

When can I resume normal activities?

A patient can usually resume most normal activities such as driving, working, mild exercising, etc. the day after their LASIK procedure.
