Cataracts
A cataract is a clouding or discoloration within the natural lens of the eye. The clouded lens distorts and blocks the passage of light through the eye to the retina, causing vision to be dull, blurry and indistinct. Studies show that two-thirds of adults over the age of 60 have some sign of cataract formation.
A procedure to remove the lens is the only effective treatment for a cataract, with cataract correction surgery substantially improving vision in more than 95 percent of patients. Using the innovative “no-shot, no-stitch, no-patch” technique, Dr. Chokshi removes the clouded lens and replaces it with a crystal clear artificial lens. This procedure generally takes less than 30 minutes. Patients experience minimal discomfort and rapid healing, with vision improving quickly. Recovery is usually complete within a few days.
Advanced technology now makes it possible for Dr. Chokshi to replace the clouded lens with a new lenses designed to improve the functional vision of cataract surgery patients and reduce dependence on glasses. These lenses such as the Crystalens, ReSTOR and Toric, work in various ways to restore a wide range of youthful vision, making it possible to see clearly at near, intermediate and far distances. Medicare allows cataract patients to select these advanced technology lenses and still receive the standard cataract benefit. The patient pays additional costs out of pocket, and we offer financing options for these patients.
